Exclusively Michael Jackson: The Album Nobody Has Outsold in Forty Years

"Exclusively Michael Jackson" is one of the most-loved single-artist channels in Kalisha's Exclusive collection — 362 votes and counting, running his catalog around the clock, no ads, nothing but the music.
Michael Jackson was born in 1958 in Gary, Indiana, the seventh of nine children in a family his father ran with the discipline of a drill sergeant. By 1968 the Jackson 5 were auditioning for Motown; Berry Gordy signed them the following spring, and the group became the first act in history whose first four singles — "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save," and "I'll Be There" — all hit No. 1. Michael was eleven years old and already carrying the group as its lead voice.
The solo career that followed didn't really separate from the group so much as outgrow it. Off the Wall (1979), made with producer Quincy Jones, turned him into an adult artist in his own right. Then came Thriller (1982) — still, more than forty years later, the best-selling album ever made, with something like 70 million copies sold worldwide and seven top-ten singles pulled from a single record, including "Billie Jean" and "Beat It." No one has matched it since, including Jackson himself: Bad (1987) and Dangerous (1991) were massive by any other artist's standard and still, by simple math, smaller than the one before.
The second half of his life ran in a very different key. Jackson spent much of the 1990s and 2000s at the center of tabloid coverage, financial strain, and two child sexual abuse allegations — the second of which went to trial in 2005 and ended in acquittal on all counts. He died in June 2009, at 50, of acute propofol intoxication, weeks before a planned 50-date residency in London that was meant to be his return to the stage. The Jackson estate and much of the public have kept treating the music and the man as two separate questions ever since, neither one canceling the other out.
None of that complexity is what plays on this station. What plays is the catalog — the Motown singles, the Quincy Jones years, the after — one continuous stream of a body of work that, for better or worse, changed what a pop song was allowed to sound like.
