Intense Radio: The 15-Person Dance Station That's Been Running Since 2012

"Intense Radio - We Love Dance" is one of the most-voted stations in Kalisha's Party Box — 47,777 votes on RadioBrowser, a number that puts it ahead of stations with actual corporate backing behind them. It has none. It's run out of the Netherlands by a crew of about fifteen people who, by their own description, are just dance, trance, and house enthusiasts who wanted a station that sounded the way they wanted radio to sound.
The station has been broadcasting since March 2012, and it runs on a day/night split that's more thought-through than most: daytime hours (06:00–20:00 CET) are "Just Dance!" — nonstop dance hits running from the 90s through whatever's current, with hourly news in Dutch. Once evening hits, the format flips to fresher, harder material — tech house and techno, with a different DJ taking the mix each night across named shows like Club Atmo, Electronic Beats, and Tranceclassic Mix.
What actually sets Intense Radio apart is something almost no small station bothers with: it streams in whatever quality you're willing to download. There's a lightweight 56kbps OPUS feed for a bad connection, and there's a full lossless FLAC stream at 1411kbps for someone who cares about hearing the mix exactly as it left the DJ's mixer. Most stations this size pick one bitrate and move on. This one built out a whole ladder of them, because apparently the people running it actually care how it sounds, not just what's playing.
That's really the whole story here: a station with no reason to exist except that a group of people in the Netherlands wanted it to, still running, still switching moods twice a day, thirteen years on.
